Improve technique, mobility and strength
Olympic Weightlifting
At Chichester Strength and Conditioning (Chi Strength), Olympic weightlifting is about more than lifting heavy barbells. It’s about learning a skill, improving your strength safely, and enjoying the process alongside a supportive community.
Our Olympic weightlifting sessions are coached, structured, and welcoming to everyone — whether you’ve never touched a barbell before or you’re looking to refine your technique. As a British Weightlifting affiliated gym, our coaching prioritises safe movement, good technique, and long-term progress, all delivered in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
No egos. No macho atmosphere. Just great coaching and a group of people who genuinely enjoy lifting together.
Home of Chichester Weightlifting Club
Chi Strength is proud to be the home of Chichester Weightlifting Club.
The club is an inclusive and encouraging community of people who share a love for Olympic weightlifting. Some members enjoy training purely for the challenge and personal progress, while others choose to compete — but competition is never a requirement.
What brings everyone together is a shared goal: improving our lifts safely and supporting each other along the way.
You’ll find experienced lifters helping beginners, plenty of encouragement when someone hits a new personal best, and a community that celebrates progress at every level.
What Is Olympic Weightlifting?
Olympic weightlifting is a barbell sport built around two lifts:
The Snatch – lifting a barbell from the floor to overhead in one smooth movement.
The Clean & Jerk – lifting the barbell to the shoulders (the clean), then driving it overhead (the jerk).
These lifts combine strength, speed, mobility, coordination and precision, making Olympic weightlifting one of the most technically rewarding and physically beneficial forms of strength training.
While it’s an Olympic sport, you absolutely do not need to be a competitive athlete to enjoy it. Many people train the lifts simply because they’re fun, challenging, and incredibly satisfying to improve over time.
